It's nice to hear Far-I on that long spoken intro to the session, though on the whole I don't think it's that great a production - sounds muddy and the bass isn't recorded particularly well (I'm talking here of hearing the session as broadcast, not the quality of the download linked - I've not listened to that) It was me who got Peel to repeat the session in 1993, which I guess is where all the copies floating about now are taken from. Peel, I think, like myself, first heard of Far-I's murder after it was reported in a small piece by Paul Bradshaw in the NME. I still have that cutting somewhere. As a sixteen-year old just getting into On-U Sound I already had some idea how important and special a figure he was, and read and re-read it, trying to make some sense of it. I listened to Peel's show that evening where he played a Far-I tune and mentioned that he'd recorded a session for him back in 1978 and that he would dig it out and play it again. I used to listen to his show religiously anyway, but as the years went by the session was never repeated. So early in 1993 I wrote him a letter saying it would soon be the 10th anniversary and maybe now would be a fitting time to do it. A while later I received a letter back from his producer thanking me for the suggestion and saying they would re-broadcast it at a date close to the anniversary, which they duly did. Peel read out some of my letter before playing the first track on the show. I was dead chuffed. I recorded the whole show onto a couple of Maxell Metal C60's with fingers and everything everything crossed that one of the session tracks wouldn't be played just as I was changing the tape over. Thankfully that didn't happen. I still have those tapes somewhere along with the letter from Peel's producer. If Photobucket hadn't become the greedy bastards that they seemingly have I would post it up here. I guess then that I must also take some blame for the "Words of Prince Far I" white label 12" that surfaced some time later. I can only apologise. Don't bother checking it out if you don't already know it

great story, ras. unfortunately, as is often the case wiv these 6 music live hour replays, not all original trax are played. the spoken intro & first trak "black man's land" are not included. they messed wiv origginal order as well (not unusual!). However, the quality is much better than the mp3s @192kbs
