Now that seemingly everything these days is heard somewhere before its actual release date, I was thinking about the DNF tracks that are 'out there' already. Adrian played quite a few on one of his NTS shows (the 10.3.15 one), there's the Sunday Roast shows and I've had a few from him too, though mostly untitled, so a bit of detective work was involved, but I came up with these - can anyone add to it: Arianne - The Schiesse Song - I think this was originally a DNF track? Graciella Rodriguez - Stop That Train - from the King Size Dub Special CD Marika - Uplifter - from the Put Your Shoes On CD. Again, I'm not sure this was originally a DNF tune, but I like it anyway. She gets a bit Mariah Carey/dog whistle towards the end, but she sounds like she's enjoying herself! Neyssatou & Lickle Mai - War Samia Farah & Neyssatou - War Badia - War - according to this Reddit post Badia'a Bouhrizi El Werghi is AKA Neyssatou Cha Cha - Rat Race Kerieva - Chavale - Romani Gypsy style unknown artist - Rat Race Miss Mykela - Tony Riddim Cha Cha - Butterfly Saba - Sameuraly Daquey - this was up on Myspace for years but seems to have disappeared now. Sung in Eritrean so this might be Saba Andemariam unknown artist - untitled - a Mexican singer on the Stop That Train rhythm Nadia George - untitled unknown artist - untitled - the East Timorese singer with a touch of autotune (I thought) as played by Steve Barker a couple of months ago And this was the artwork ten years ago - Samia Farah's work, I reckon

Good summation, however when it was first announced back in 2009, or thereabouts, it was going to be a 16 track double album, so you're one track short . The first link that came up when I Googled the title, was a post on David Parker's Skysaw Facebook page. Allarme by Mama Marjas was released in 2010, which dates it to around that time, but I'm not sure if this was ever intended to be included in the project. Here's the translated blurb from iTunes: " After the single with Neffa in summer 2010, Marjas flies to England and returns to roots music with the legendary Adrian Sherwood, a guru of the history of dub and world music, producer for Real World and for On_U Sound.
The result is the single "Alarm" on the Love University label (for digital sales on iTunes) and its video clip, shot in Bologna, conceived by the collective Hansy Lumen and directed by Federico Ajello. Twenty years after the "Stop the Panic" of the Isola Posse, the urban scenarios scattered with social alarms are still "illuminated" by the musical messages of young Italian artists. In this case Mama Marjas is linked to the best roots reggae tradition, represented at the top by the musicians of the Roots Radics Band and by Adrian Sherwood, to sound the alarm against intolerance and racism. On the same rhythm Fido Guido with his "Give me the Senses" deals with the age-old problem of prohibition on soft drugs, singing in English with his unique style that makes him the most talented and attentive to the social issues of the Italian scene and his "Give me the Senses" and a real anti-prohibitionist "anthem" today. The two Singles on the rhythm are available in digital version on iTunes."

I quite like the Mama Marjas and Fido Guido tunes. My mind tells me there was another Mama Marjas tune on an On-U rhythm at around the same time too (not the Marjas/Mykela album) but I could be misremembering The search is on for the 16th tune then...! An old AMS Myspace update is saved on the E.O.M.S. blog and he mentions a Polish singer there, so I reckon that would be Marika

Oh excellent I thought about doing this a while ago but couldn't be bothered.
But I can tell you the DNF I have has 19 tracks, but I have no titles.
Three tracks are on the Stop That Train rhythm, possible one is a dupe of another one.
There are the two War versions. Something else on the Empires Falling rhythm, and another on my favourite No Alternative rhythm.
Which title above is the Cha Cha one on the Shorty rhythm? Butterfly?
Maybe your notes above will help me match up tracks to titles and artists ....

These days I find it harder to recognise rhythms, or rather put a name to them - OK if it's Stop That Train, but the obscurer ones take time... Is Shorty also the "I just wanna stick my tongue in your ear" one? If so, yes, that's Butterfly A couple more thoughts: The Saba one I've also seen somewhere called "Beautiful Eritrea" Wondering about Nadia George too - is it possible it's a bastardisation of the first bit of Badia'a Bouhrizi El Werghi... or am I just over-thinking this? I'll have to listen again to what I've got and see if I can put names to some of the rhythms...

OK - been having a rummage the last couple of nights and have come up with these updates, mostly rhythms, and included for the sake of completeness the obvious ones too Arianne - The Schiesse Song - Fight The Power rhythm (waste of a good rhythm if ever there was one) Marika - Uplifter - These Eyes rhythm, from Vacuum Pumping, As an aside, I'd never thought about the original of These Eyes before, but it turns out to be by The Guess Who from 1969 Kerieva - Chavale - still can't get this one... unknown artist - Rat Race - still don't know the artist, but it's sung in German - "das ist das rattenrennen"Cha Cha - Butterfly - Shorty/I'm The Man For You Baby rhythm, as mentioned Saba - Sameuraly Daquey/Beautiful Eritrea - naggingly familiar, but still can't get this one either. Think I've played it that many times now I've obliterated any traces of the original that might have been floating around in my head Nadia George - untitled - Ghetto Life rhythm (Ghetto Priest) unknown East Timorese singer - Well Tuned Now rhythm Cha Cha - untitled - More And More rhythm Mama Marjas - Allarme (and Fido Guido's - Gimme The Sensi) - African Head Charge In The Hackney Empire / Empires Falling rhythm (only just saw what they did there!). The Mama Marjas tune, incidentally, starts off with a siren noise, if that helps with indentification So it's just the Saba and Kerieva rhythms I can't get. If anyone wants to chip in, Adrian played them both on his 10.3.15 NTS radio show - Saba at 23:00 and Kerieva at 31:11...

Shame that 'they' couldn't have got it together enough to release this today Would have fitted in nicely and might have got some promotion from it too

I can't find any mention of Nadja Ostroff online other than this Tessa Pollitt interview (which refers to her as Dr. No): www.fearandloathingfanzine.com/the-slits.htmlSee paragraph starting with the question, "When Ari approached you in 2005 to suggest reforming The Slits..." Is Nadia George an alias for Nadja Ostroff? Is "Nadja" another spelling error in the artwork uploaded by Jethro?

Nadja and Nadia and Nadya can all be considered anglicisations of the same root name. I have nothing else to offer :)
